My stories

My School Story
On the first day of school M sat at the back of the bus with new first years.

Older boys intimidated and said they would bring a knife next time as it was their seat.

M was traumatised, initially hesitant but we urged reporting to the school.
They questioned M in disbelief!

Mistake 1, nobody at this school responds to bullying.
Reporting made things worse, parents urged school to act.

Mistake 2, they do not want their school identified to have bullying.
Escalation violent attack filmed by students urging on violence.

CCTV proved attack.
Parents told this could not be viewed by them.

3 x since tried to return school.

Home Education was a blessing M started to recover, heal and move on.

Now creating art, dancing, engaging with online groups and tutors.

So relieved Home Education gives this amazing opportunity to be safe and learn.

School is a terrifying place for so many (including the staff I believe).
My Home Ed Story
We de-registered officially (using a guide to make it official) the school were not interested "Thank you for letting us know the Inclusion Officer will be informed".

We informed the LA ourselves.

The EHE Team offered a visit, we said we would like to respond by writing.

Our communication was well received and they thanked us saying they would like to be in touch in a year.

Quickly engaging in FB EHE sites we soon organised a great learning opportunity by way of an outing.

Venues, friendships and support were readily available.

This was so helpful, well organised with experienced Home Educators giving lots of information and advice.
How I think schools could be better.
They should include and respect the parents knowledge and experience. It is their child who is handed over each day to this institution. Pupils staying in one area of the school to have lessons rather than spending hours, trawling from one end of the school to the other. The teachers should do the travelling, this would make for a safer experience. The corridors and toilets are not safe places. Allowing toilet breaks unhindered, it is undignified to be refused toilet breaks. Making yoga or meditation part of the school day to include all staff taking part. Providing chill out zones with dimmed lights accessed when needed. More buddying by older children. Smaller sizes of sittings for lunch or let the children eat in their classes. Why not 4 days a week. Staff would do a better job if less stressed.
