My stories

My School Story
My child only survived three months at their second school due to autistic burnout and school related trauma. My child has ADHD and struggled to sit through the 100 mintues lessons. A break pass was promised before they started at school, but it was never put in place. My child also found cold calling during the lesson very stressful. They were anxious about getting detentions every single day for minor issues. They didn't feel safe at school as they got bullied quite a few times and there were no trustworthy adults to support them. We contacted school's staff as soon as our child developed EBSA (Emotionally Based School Avoidance), but it was not taken seriously. Instead we were threatened by fines due to his absences. A support plan was only implemented a month later, which was too late. They haven't been able to attend school for over 15 months now. They are still suffering from anxiety disorder.

My Home Ed Story
They haven't been able to attend school for over 15 months now.
We've applied for EHCP for EOTAS, but their current school was still the named school on the EHCP.
How I think schools could be better.
Schools need to remove detentions and strict rules. It's a place for education, not a prison. Children should have more autonomy. They should be treated respectfully, equally and fairly.
