My stories

My School Story
I sent my son to school aged 4 and he repeated reception amd attended for a little of year 1.

He is diagnosed as autistic.

At school he really needed a 1-1 but there was no funding.

I used to attend fortnightly meetings with the school to advocate for my son's needs.

The meetings had lots of people in them, some of them getting paid around £150 an hour.

They were all there to figure out how my son could be in school without a 1 -1 (which they said they couldn't afford yet these meetings cost a fortune).

I ended up removing my child from school as they were isolating him in a sensory tent as they didn't have enough adults to look after him.

He was also being physically hurt during playtimes both by other children and also due to accidents caused by his autism.

It was very stressful, I was studying Medical science at the time and had to quit my course in order to go to the school as much as I did.

My Home Ed Story
Home educating became absolutely necessary as there were other schools in our rural area to suit my child. He has been home educated for 6/7 years now and has come on leaps and bounds.

I can't imagine what would have become of him if stranger from the local authority denied us home education.
How I think schools could be better.
Mixed ages, flexi schooling, make exams non compulsory, allow children to be flexible with the curriculum. Nurture a love of learning through inventive mediums not just a board.

Get kids in the community every single week, planting, litter picking, fixing , growing.
