My School Story
My son has SEN, he struggled with school and couldn’t manage his emotions, this meant he kept losing control and eventually restrained. This made him scared of school but didn’t understand why etc, eventually he was hurt when restrained, the school blamed him and said he did it after being restrained, it was my word against theirs so I pulled him out and his meltdowns have become a lot less frequent. He never got an echp as school said he didn’t need one as he wasn’t ’bad enough’.
What happened next...
It is better as we can learn when he wants, also less pressure and demands so he’s happier and less meltdowns
How I think schools could be better.
Give children more support, recognise when a child is struggling and don’t see it as misbehaving or a choice especially those with SEN who are struggling with the environment.
